The National Parliament has officially launched its new website aimed at making parliamentary information more accessible, transparent and readily available to all citizens across the country.
The website, launched today 22nd July 22, 2026, with support from the UNDP and the PNG Australia Partnership's Stap Wantaim initiative, is designed to provide easier access to parliamentary proceedings, legislation, committee reports and other official information in real time.
Delivering the keynote address, Acting Speaker of Parliament Koni Iguan described the website as "a new window into the soul of democracy," saying it reflects Parliament's commitment to openness, transparency, accessibility and timely communication.
"Openness means that every citizen, whether sitting in an office in Port Moresby, a school classroom in Mount Hagen or a home in a remote village in Western Province, can access Parliament. Transparency means Parliament's decisions; Bills, Hansard reports and committee updates are not hidden behind administrative red tape but are made clear to the public."
Mr. Iguan said the digital platform will help bridge the gap between Parliament and the people by ensuring citizens can follow parliamentary business as it happens.
"A Parliament that operates in the dark or behind walls of delayed information creates a disconnect between the government and the governed. This new website is our pledge to tear down those invisible walls. It is our commitment to ensuring that the House of the People is truly accessible by the people as we embrace technology."
He said the website has been designed to serve ordinary Papua New Guineans, including students, mothers, community leaders and citizens living in remote parts of the country, by providing clear and accessible parliamentary information.
Mr. Iguan also acknowledged the efforts of the Parliament Service, led by the Clerk of Parliament, and the technical teams who worked to deliver the project.
"I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to our Parliament Service, led by the Clerk of Parliament, and the technical teams who worked tirelessly to bring this project to reality."
Reflecting on Papua New Guinea's journey over the past five decades, Mr. Iguan referenced the writings of Grand Chief Sir Albert Maori Kiki, saying the nation has made remarkable progress in a single generation and must continue embracing innovation to strengthen democracy.
"Let us carry forward the spirit of Sir Albert Maori Kiki and our founding fathers, continuing to make extraordinary leaps in our own lifetime for the betterment of our people."
The launch of the website marks another step in Parliament's efforts to modernize its services, improve public engagement, and ensure citizens have greater access to the work of the country's highest legislative institution.
