The Tanuga Primary School in Lake Kutubu will soon have a four in one (4 in 1) Double Classroom thanks to the generous support of K304,245 from the Wame Blood Group Of Companies (WBGC). The Managing director of WBGC and FOE Association Inc. Chairman, Johnny Yawari presented the cheque to Atlas Steel PNG on Tuesday 04th February. The total project cost was expected to reach K1 million, factoring in additional expenses such as labor, security, transportation, and freighting. However, the issued cheque covered only the fabrication costs for the building structure and interior fit-out, excluding these supplementary costs. The Foe Association continues to make significant strides in human resource and infrastructure development in Kutubu LLG, with its latest investment focused on education. While presenting the cheque, Mr. Yawari reaffirmed his commitment to strengthening the education sector in line with the association’s long-term development plans, recognizing its crucial role in shaping a progressive society. Mr. Yawari emphasized that meaningful change and transformation in Kutubu require collective efforts from all stakeholders, including the Provincial Government and Districts, to create strong educational pathways. He stressed that investing in human resource capacity is essential, as it serves as a catalyst for progress. As part of this commitment, Mr Yawari confirmed funding for staff housing at Tanuga and Gesege Primary Schools, a double classroom for Kikori High School, a low-set duplex for K-Point Community School, and a low-set double classroom for Kantobo. He also highlighted Foe Association’s longstanding partnership with Atlas Steel, which has successfully delivered two similar school building projects, with this initiative marking their third. Atlas Steel PNG will supply materials to Foe Investment Corporation Limited for the Kutubu educational project, benefiting over 7,000 primary students at Tanuga Primary School having access to school-friendly facilities. The Chairman further clarified that the funds presented to Atlas Steel PNG was not from donor agencies or government institutions. Furthermore, Mr. Yawari revealed that the funds were raised through the "Artists For A Cause" concert at Hilton Hotel on November 10, 2023, featuring performances by local PNG artists and Wame Blood band. He also confirmed that Foe Investment Corporation, with support from the Nipa Kutubu District Development Authority (NKDDA), will construct two staff houses for Kutubu Secondary School. “I’d like to extend my appreciation to the Minister for Defence Hon. Dr. Billy Joseph for the appropriate intervention in supporting Foe Association and the people of Lake Kutubu through this timely support.” “Foe association thankfully recognizes the support given by every individual who turned up at the fundraising concert to purchase a table and support a worthy cause.” Yawari expressed confidence in Foe Investment Corporation’s ability to drive progress and envisions Kutubu’s transformation within the next decade. The ongoing tensions between the Kameas and Moveaves in Kerema District, Gulf Province, has left families and communities in Kerema Fish creek unsettled with fear in the end of last year. According to the Gulf Police Major Incident progressive brief, five significant conflicts have left communities dispersed and in fear in the Fish Creek area in Kerema District, Gulf Province following the initial act of violence between the Kameas and Moveaves. These events have heightened instability, causing destruction and loss of life. The first major event took place on on November 27, 2024, at Fish Creek. Armed suspects, collaborating with a known criminal from Goilala Sou Moroa and local Kamea, robbed and murdered Taila Sela Kamangaio from Morobe Province. Immediate retaliation resulted in another fatality from the Moveave side. Law enforcement arrested three individuals, who are currently detained at Malalaua Police Station. The second clash erupted on January 15, 2025, at Hinega after being provoked 3 days prior by locals from Moveaves, despite 30 days moratorium agreed upon by both factions. Kameas targeted Moveaves residing at Fish Creek, despite a peace agreement in place. The attack injured multiple individuals and led to the burning of property. Among the casualties was 19-year-old Michael Pokana, whose decaying body was discovered days later. A third violent act unfolded on January 17, 2025, in Waeka, where a Dawa couple was attacked, robbed, and had their infant abducted. The baby was later returned, though a suspect who facilitated its transfer was detained for suspected involvement. The fourth wave of destruction came on January 21, 2025, when armed individuals from Watut/Kamea set fire to homes and looted businesses along the Taure River. While no fatalities were reported, the escalation of hostilities signalled a deepening crisis. The pattern of these incidents underscores the fragile security situation, necessitating urgent intervention to prevent further violence. The fourth incident saw armed men from Watut/Kamea set fire to several houses and looted two trade stores belonging to Moveaves along the Taure River during the early hours of January 21, 2025. Though no casualties were reported, this act further escalated tensions between the two groups. Meanwhile, the most recent occurred on February 1, 2025, when armed Kamea men travelled down the Lakekamu River, looting a Moveave-owned trade store. In retaliation, ten Moveave dinghies pursued the attackers, engaging in violent confrontations. Several individuals sustained spear and bullet wounds, but no official reports have been filed. A few properties were burnt down by armed men of Watut/Kamea, including a permanent building in Hinega near Fish Creek, several homes and two canteens at Taure River. Gulf Police have made multiple arrest but face lack of cooperation from locals to aid police investigation towards apprehending responsible suspects for the current and previous crimes.

JT Super 9’s Tournament Chief Executive Mr. Bagelo Solien, who spoke at the launching also strongly reaffirmed his strong stand on “No Violence” throughout the competition, warning teams of the harsh penalties should the 9’s competition bylaws be violated. A Twin Otter aircraft registered as P2-AXL veered off the runway during landing at Kerema airport in the Gulf Province today. The plane came to a stop in a grassy area beside the airstrip, with its nose slightly tilted downward and its tail elevated up forming an acute angle. The Provincial Police Commander for Gulf, Jeffery Lam confirmed the incident, but no further details about what caused the accident or if there were any casualties have been released, but factors such as weather conditions, runway surface, or mechanical issues could have played a role. Local authorities and aviation personnel were present at the scene to assess the situation. There were no immediate signs of injuries or significant structural damage. Investigations are expected to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The 2025 Digicel ExxonMobil Cup Football will commence a 4-days Conference commencing today to improve club standard for the upcoming season in Port Moresby. The PNG National Rugby League Competition (PNG NRLC) made this announcement yesterday 5th February 2025, stating the conference will commence today, Thursday 6th February and end on Sunday, 9th February. According to the announcement, this 2025 Football Conference will be the largest ever, with up to 90 participants from various clubs gathering to prepare for the upcoming season. Following the historic decision for PNG NRL team in 2028, the focus remains on creating or building a strong pathway for Papua New Guinean players through developing tough domestic competitions. The conference theme for this year 2025 is ‘Building Better Clubs’. It is critical for the development of participating clubs for success of the game at a national level. The PNGRFL recognizes that better clubs provide greater opportunities for players to achieve their dreams. The conference will include education, training, and accreditation for club Strength and Conditioners, Medical staff, Coaches, Franchise Managers, and Club Chairmen. General Manager of Pathways and Performance, Mr. Tony Archer expressed his excitement about the conference, highlighting the successful 2024 season and the importance of raising club standards for a better player environment. He also acknowledged the investment from great sponsors Digicel, ExxonMobil, Kumul Mineral Holdings Limited, MVIL and praised the partnership with the Australian Government through PacificAus Sports for enabling educational conferences to enhance skills and build capacity in rugby league. The State of Emergency (SOE) Controller, acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (A/ACP) Highlands Western End, Mr. Joseph Tondop, has expressed deep gratitude for the key figures and organizations that facilitated the Emergency Peace Agreement (EPA) in the Porgera-Paiela District. The SOE Controller stated this during the Emergency Peace agreement ceremony on January 31st January 2025, at Porgera Station. A/ACP Tondop commended the collaborative efforts of Enga Provincial Governor Sir Peter Ipatas, law enforcement units, the Papua New Guinea Defence Force (PNGDF), and community leaders who played crucial roles in mediating peace. He highlighted the relentless dedication of police commanders, business leaders such as Chamber of Commerce President Nickson Pakea, and faith-based organizations, including the SDA Church Porgera and the United Church Port Moresby. Furthermore, Tondop urged leaders to honor their commitments, warning of strict legal consequences for any breaches to the EPA. The landmark signing brought together the Pianda, Sakare Mamai, Eno, Aiyala, and Nomali clans, officially ending months of conflict that claimed over 33 lives and disrupted essential services. The organizers of the Rigo Rice Cup have reinforced their commitment to maintaining discipline and upholding the tournament’s by-laws, emphasizing that lawlessness will not be tolerated. According to KCK Rigo Rice organizing committee, a penalty notice was issued to the United Finance M3 Bulldogs Rugby League Club following a successful appeal by Odesh Magarima United. The appeal revealed that Peter Pakali and Jason Kusanaik, who had already played in the first leg for City Taubadas and D8 Mosquitos, respectively, attempted to participate again in violation of tournament regulations. Despite multiple announcements and previous removals of players under similar circumstances, the breach occurred, prompting organizers to take decisive action. As a result, both players have been placed on an official warning notice and are prohibited from participating in legs 2, 3, and 4. Any further violations will result in a three-year ban from the Rigo Rice Cup. Additionally, the United Finance M3 Bulldogs must pay a double fine before February 6th before 4:00 PM to be eligible for a rematch. The KCK Rigo Rice Cup organizers are urging all teams to familiarize themselves with the by-laws to avoid penalties and ensure a fair and orderly competition.

The State of Emergency (SOE) Controller Acting Assistant Commissioner of Police (A/ACP) and Hela Provincial Police Commander (PPC) Joseph Tondop has warned that any violation of the recently signed Emergency Peace Agreement (EPA) will result in severe consequences. A/ACP Tondop emphasized this warning during the EPA ceremony held at Porgera Sation Open Air grandstand on January 31, 2025. Tondop clearly warned the locals that any breaches of the EPA will have serious legal consequences, with clan leaders being held accountable if their members violate the terms of the peace deal. He stated that maintaining stability depends on strict enforcement of the agreement. He also emphasized that the EPA is a legally binding document, and any violations will be treated as criminal offenses. He stated that the signed agreement will be used as court evidence, ensuring that those who disrupt the peace face the full force of the law. Local leaders were urged to take responsibility for educating their communities about the importance of upholding the agreement. Furthermore, Tondop also highlighted the need for additional measures to maintain law and order, including a proposed gun surrender program and restrictions on alcohol consumption, which he identified as key drivers of violence in Porgera. The Pianda, Sakare Mamai, Eno, Aiyala, and Nomali clans of Porgera Valley made history by signing the Emergency Peace Agreement (EPA) recently at the Porgera Station open air grandstand on January 31, 2025. This long-awaited EPA ceremony was witnessed by more than 5,000 witnesses, marking the end of violent conflict that erupted in August 2024 over illegal mining activities. Under heavy security, leaders of the five clans were escorted into Porgera Station, where they publicly pledged to lay down arms and restore peace. Religious leaders, including the SDA Church of Porgera, played a vital role in guiding the process. The peace process was made possible through months of behind-the-scenes negotiations following the declaration of a State of Emergency (SOE) on September 18, 2024. A decisive closed-door meeting at Aumpi Guest House paved the way for the formalization of the peace agreement. During the signing, clan leaders publicly apologized for the loss of lives and destruction of property. They vowed to uphold the terms of the agreement and entrusted the customary settlement of deaths and damages to Operation Mekim Save mediators. A signed and sealed copy of the EPA was distributed to all key stakeholders, ensuring accountability. Meanwhile, the months of violence has claimed over 33 lives, mostly women and children, and caused millions of kina in property destruction. Basic services such as education, healthcare, and banking were also disrupted, leaving the community in turmoil. With this historic agreement, Porgera takes a significant step toward lasting peace, setting the foundation for rebuilding and restoring services that had been disrupted by the conflict.

Simbu Police arrested and charged a suspect for the alleged theft of two Lucas Mills. The Police Fraud Squad Members gathered all the evidence and investigated the incident and soon apprehended the suspect, where he was formally charged for stealing two Lucas Mills that were the property of the Salt Nomane Karamui District Development Authority in Simbu province. The Simbu Provincial Police Commander (PPC), Superintendent, Mazuc Rubiang confirmed that the suspect was arrested but released on K1,500.00 police bail. PPC Rubiang stated that the incident occurred between June 30th and December 30th, 2021, at Goroka Farmset. After a police investigation, the suspect was arrested and charged on January 27th, 2025. According to PPC Rubiang the suspect responsible for the stolen Lucas Mills, who will not be named, is believed to be a son of a member of Parliament.
