OK TEDI REVEALS K32 BILLION CONTRIBUTION TO PNG ECONOMY

Ok Tedi Mining Limited has contributed approximately K32 billion to Papua New Guinea's economy over the past decade, highlighting its significant role in supporting government revenue and national development.

Ok Tedi Chief Executive Officer Kedi Ilimbit revealed the figure during the company's inaugural stakeholder roadshow, where government representatives, provincial leaders, diplomats and business partners gathered to hear about the company's operations and future plans.

The CEO says the contribution included government revenue through taxes, dividends, royalties, compensation, and other economic benefits. He said Ok Tedi has remained one of the country's major economic assets, with its operations supporting thousands of jobs and creating business opportunities for Papua New Guineans.

The company currently employs approximately 3,000 full-time workers and supports thousands more through contractors and business partnerships.

Ilimbit says about 98 per cent of its workforce were Papua New Guineans, demonstrating the company's contribution to local employment and skills development. He stressed that the benefits generated by Ok Tedi should reach communities throughout the country, not just Western Province.

"Ok Tedi is not mine. Ok Tedi is not for any one of you. Ok Tedi is for the 11 million people of Papua New Guinea," he says.

He calls on political leaders and government stakeholders to recognize the company's national contribution and work together to ensure its economic benefits continue reaching ordinary Papua New Guineans.
