A new Toyota Land Cruiser handed over to Tapini local level government today in Port Moresby is expected to boost road monitoring, maintenance, improve access to remote communities, and strengthen disaster response efforts across the Goilala district.
The Central Provincial Government officially presented the vehicle to Tapini LLG President Buni Morua during a handover ceremony, describing it as a key resource to support the monitoring and implementation of road infrastructure projects, particularly along the Goilala/Mona Highway.
Acting Provincial Administrator for Central Province, Magini Raga says the vehicle forms part of ongoing efforts to support the Connect PNG program and ensure services reach rural communities.
Mr. Raga says that while governments can provide plans and funding, the success of development projects depends on effective implementation at the local level.
The vehicle will be used by Tapini LLG to oversee roadworks and improve accessibility throughout the district, including remote areas.
Mr. Raga says that improved access is essential for economic development and enables faster response during emergencies and natural disasters.
Morua thanks the Central Provincial Government for its confidence in his leadership and the work of Tapini LLG.
He says the Goilala/Mona Highway, built in the 1980s, has suffered years of neglect and inadequate maintenance.
Since taking office, he has been advocating for greater local involvement in managing and maintaining the district's roads.
Morua also acknowledges the support of provincial leaders, including Provincial Administrator Magini Raga and Central Province Governor Rufina Peter, for backing initiatives focused on improving infrastructure and services for local communities.
He says the Land Cruiser will help strengthen road monitoring and maintenance efforts, allowing the LLG to continue improving transport links across the district.
"Our people want to see development delivered on the ground," Morua says.
"This vehicle will help us continue the work we have started and improve access for communities throughout Tapini."
