Following the unauthorized sit-in-protest document circulating on social media, NCD’s Metropolitan Superintendent Silva Sika has come out to reaffirm that the role of law enforcement is to ensuring peace and stability, amid rising tension brought about by misleading information. Sika stated this in an interview with PNG HAUSBUNG today, Monday 3rd March 2025. He addressed concerns about misinformation, stating, “fake opportunities on social media are being used to cause diversion and unrest in the city.” Met. Supt. Sika made it clear that the police are actively working to investigate the source of this false information and identify the group of people who have established themselves to spread these misleading reports. "We are checking where the report is coming from, when it was posted," he said, emphasizing that authorities will deal with this to prevent further disruptions. Regarding the unauthorized protest, he explained that it was an attempt to "challenge the government of the day" and test "the muscle of the government." However, he warned that such actions would not be tolerated. "Even if we are given the okay, we will never allow any professional demonstrators because of the behaviour of our people at this stage," he stated. Superintendent Sika assured citizens that the police are "on 24-hour, seven-day full-time duty," ready to intervene if necessary. "We are prepared and ready to deal with any issues," he said, sending a firm warning to those who attempt to "change the rule of law in this country." His final message was one of caution. "Let the leaders handle it, let the government handle it. The public must trust the legal system and avoid being misled by those who seek to create instability."
