The legacy of legendary PNG musician Daniel Bilip was celebrated in emotional fashion at the 2025 20th YUMI FM PNG Musik Awards after the late artist posthumously received the prestigious Justin Kili Award for his impact on Papua New Guinea’s music scene.

The heartfelt tribute became one of the most emotional moments of the night as Sarah Bilip accepted the award on behalf of her late brother, saying the family did not expect the recognition.

Fighting back emotion during her speech, Sarah said she was proud and grateful to see her brother’s contribution to PNG music honoured on one of the country’s biggest entertainment stages.

“I was really surprised and caught off guard, but I am so happy for my late brother’s achievements,” she said.

Sarah added that knowing her brother, he would have dedicated the award to his loyal fans throughout the country and thanked everyone who supported his musical journey over the years.

The posthumous recognition of Daniel Bilip served as a reminder of the lasting influence his music continues to have on generations of Papua New Guineans, cementing his place among the nation’s most respected local music icons.
